Only just became aware of the Financial Modeling World Cup after chatting recently with Diarmuid Early, the LeBron James of Excel Spreadsheets per Investors.com and current #2 ranked player in the competition (and soon to be #1!)
Now you might think this is similar to Training The Street's formatting exercise, but it's much more
The competition includes a series of real-life problem-solving case studies. Each case contains a number of questions (between 4 and 20) that vary in complexity
The cases cover various scenarios, including conventional cases, testing different financial modeling aspects (such as company valuation, M&A modeling, debt modeling), freestyle cases (modeling tasks without specific financial knowledge), and out-of-the-box cases that require applying financial modeling techniques
The total number of points available for correctly solving all the cases at each stage is 1,000 points per stage, though additional point bonuses could be introduced by the organizers with the goal to give extra interest to the competition (e.g., extra 100 points for answering an additional extra-hard question). If a participant solves all the cases before the 2h deadline, a bonus mark of 10 points is awarded for each full minute saved. It is required that at least 90% of regular points are scored to get the bonus marks
Stage #5 of the Financial Modeling World Cup is on July 21. Learn more at fmworldcup.com
