Our Story
David and Peter founded SheetWhiz with the mission of making professionals who work in Google Sheets as productive as they are in Excel. As a private equity investor who spent years working in Excel, David acutely felt the friction of moving to Google Sheets after joining a startup in 2021. While Sheets made collaboration easier, it lacked the keyboard shortcuts and formula auditing tools - such as tracing dependents and precedents - that made day-to-day work efficient.


After trying existing tools and finding none that solved the problem, David shared this pain with Peter, a Meta software engineer who had spent years using Google Sheets and building on top of it. Drawing on his own experience and working through real finance workflows, Peter identified technical patterns and optimizations that made it possible to build a better set of tools for Sheets, despite others believing it wasn’t feasible.
To validate the problem, David and Peter spoke with finance professionals who were also struggling with the Excel-to-Sheets transition. With that conviction, they assembled a team to build SheetWhiz.
Today, the team continues to expand SheetWhiz so Excel-trained professionals can work productively in Google Sheets, and hopes it enables you to do the same.
